The State Agency for Youth and Sports implements the common state policy in the field of youth, physical education, sport and social tourism in the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Agency is the state body that drafts national strategies, national and annual programs for the development of physical education, sport and youth policy. Drafts and proposes annual program for youth activities and Annual Report on Youth for approval by the Council of Ministers, organizes the cooperation and supports youth organizations in the country for the implementation of state youth policy. A team of skilled experts makes proposals and opinions in relation to the harmonization of the legislation of the Republic of Bulgaria in the field of youth, sport and social tourism with the international legal regulations. "Youth International Programs" Directorate at the State Agency for Youth and Sports administers projects within the framework of "Youth" Program and other programs funded by the European Union or international organizations.

The State Agency for Youth and Sports supervises the activities of sport organizations complying with the Law on Physical Education and Sports. Together with the sport federations and with the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, the Agency funds a program for training and participation of Bulgarian athletes in Olympic Games. Bulgaria is hosting many prestigious tournaments, European and World Championships in different types of sport.

On behalf of the state, the State Agency for Youth and Sports stimulates athletes, sport specialists and officials, as well as young talents in different fields of public life with different awards on regular basis. Special attention is paid to the development of sport at schools and in leisure time of children and young people, as one of the best alternatives of criminality and drug addictions. The Agency supports coordination and organization of Scholl and University Games and competitions, as well as other youth sport activities.

Another priority in the Agency's activities is the prevention and control on use of doping in sport, as well as the fight against violence and misbehavior in sport.

The State Agency of Youth and Sports manages state owned sport infrastructure and drafts strategy for the development of physical education, sport and social tourism sites and facilities.

Pursuant to the requirements of the Law on Physical Education and Sports the State Agency for Youth and Sports controls the compliance with the regimen for use and ensures optimal operation of the national youth and sport sites and facilities being state /or municipal/ ownership, for the needs of youth, physical education, sport and social tourism in Bulgaria.

As primary distributor of budget credits the Agency allocates the state budget and other state sources subsidies for youth activities, physical education, sport and social tourism, finances different programs and projects of youth and sport organization, as well as projects related to the development of disabled people and people in unequal position.
